Why? About

Ecosystem services globally require restoration, urgently! These functions underpin sustainability on a hugely optimised cost/benefit basis. They generate a € multi-trillion economic sector of innovation, technologies, learning, investment and jobs. Mediterranean climates are among the most densely and longest populated and are thus most degraded, so our impact can be largest there. Successes can also be extrapolated to non-Med climate areas. This is the initiative we intend to implement over the next 10 years, creating a legacy and organization that will carry on into a secure future.

Restore healthy functioning to Ecosystem services in the Mediterranean Basin and other Mediterranean climates (S. Africa, Australia, Chile and California). Establish regional Living Labs as global reference Centers of Excellence. Integrate Systems thinking, Design strategy, Innovation and Learning processes for program execution. Facilitate networks, alliances and funding to achieve excellence in delivering measurable outcomes. Propagate lessons learned for deepest grasp, widest reach and continuous improvement.
What Are Ecosystem Services?

Ecosystem Services are the processes by which the environment produces resources that we often take for granted such as clean water, timber, and habitat for fisheries, and pollination of native and agricultural plants. Whether we find ourselves in the city or a rural area, the ecosystems in which humans live provide goods and services that are very familiar to us.

We chose Circle Squared as the name for Foundation due to inspiration from both its background and significance. 
The articles linked by buttons below explain this significance in practical terms and take it further into implications in solutions for our collective futures.  The point we make? Impossible projects require new thinking and creative yet systematic design approaches. In architecture, maintaining the integrity of intent of a building must to be rationalised with the need to maintain  exhibitions  and yet grow in  purpose In maths, "squaring a circle" has been proven an impossibility and yet dedicated scientists have found and applied useful approximations.  Just because something appears impossible (too big to approach or taking too long to achieve), it is no match for human creativity and perseverence to make a difference and a significant impact. 
We use this as an analogy for Circle Squared Foundation's strategies, tactics and activities; Sustainability may seem an impossibility to many or too overwhelming an objective to achieve. In fact, it is achievable to a powerful degree on many levels and across many facets of application and that, on any given day, is enough and of real value. We do not need to be 100% perfect or complete, just to get started.  We hope you find meaning and inspiration for yourself in these pages, and will join us in some capacity in "Squaring the Circle"!
